Each pop-up café will have a slightly different cake offer; however, we always try to provide Gluten Free and Dairy-Free or Vegan options. When you arrive to your location, the Café Kit should already have a copy of the allergens matrix for you to familiarise yourself.
Open House provides cake domes and tongs for serving cake. For allergen control, we ask that each set of tongs stays with its own cake dome and is labelled appropriately. Each cake will also have it’s own label which highlights its allergens.
When you arrive to setup, a washing place will be identified so that you are able to wash equipment thoroughly throughout the shift.
Half portions of cake are available; please make sure you make some up by cutting a few slices in half before putting on display. There will be a half portion button on the till system.
Till and payments
Our Square terminal will take record of all card and cash payments at your event. The machine will work without wifi but it is really important that the device is connected to the internet within 24 hours of being used offline. Please watch this video below that explains the basics of using the machine:
How to use our Square Payment terminal
Things not mentioned in the video:
- To connect to the internet, go to “settings”, and “hardware” – this will give you the chance to connect to wifi. Volunteers don’t necessarily need to do this, but it is an option.
- Although the card reader has a very good battery life, there is a charger in case it starts to run out of juice.
- All cake portions will go into the basket as a “Full portion” as standard. If somebody is buying a half portion, click on the cake once it is in the basket, and it’ll give you the option to choose “half portion”.
